so back to the original topic, anyone use powerheads? I have 2 in my Mbuna tank to get a good current and keep the top of the sand clean.

sure, I see a lot of powerheads used in SW tanks. They even have expensive wavemakers that can control multiple powerheads to create a realistic wave effect in the tank. I suppose some people still use them for under gravel filters, I only use mine for extra current.

I don't know very much about SW tanks, but I do see a lot of them in SW tanks, even the small nano tanks. that's probably mostly for reef tanks.

Well, let's see. I have an AC 30 on my 10 gal, 2 AC 70s on my 40 breeder (one to be replaced shortly with an Emperor 400), and an AC 70 and an Emperor 400 on my 46BF.

good set of filters vanillarum. I just got the Emperor 400 and was impressed with the flow compared to my penguin 350. that thing holds a lot of media and puts out a lot of water. I bet your 40gallon has some great current going with that thing
